“So you’ll let him grow up here, on our farm?” Jane seemed to want to be sure before she got her hopes set.

Mara nodded. “I will, of course, be monitoring his progress and will expect regular reports from you, Mick.” She turned to the doctor of the family, then nodded to her alien companion. “Prime will give you a list of items we wish you to monitor in his development and equipment to record your observations and transmit them to me. I will also visit every six solar months to see him for myself, and compare his growth with Callie’s.”

Mick nodded and Jane smiled broadly. Caleb felt a vision coming over him and was helpless to stop it. He let it come, tuning out the conversation that continued around him.

When he came back to himself, Mara and her friend Prime were standing to leave. Caleb caught the speaking glances from his family and knew they’d picked up on his little vacation from the conversation but were covering for him. Caleb walked out with the group, escorting Mara and Prime back to their ship. Just before they boarded, Caleb stepped forward and took Mara by the hand, surprising her, he could tell.

“You’ve made a good decision here today, Mara. Future generations of both our peoples will benefit by your willingness to open your mind to other possibilities, and your conscientious study of your people’s past.”

Mara cocked her head to one side as she considered Caleb’s words. He saw the light dawn in her eyes when she remembered his precognitive powers.

“You’ve seen this?” she asked in a whisper, as if she were truly astounded by the idea.

Caleb nodded solemnly. “By your actions here today, the possible futures have coalesced into more certainty than I’ve seen in a long while. I can tell you thisyour son will be a great leader for both our peoples in his time. He will broaden your understanding of your own genetic code and bridge the gap between what’s left of humanity and your culture. He will be an instrument of healingfor this planet and for our peoples.”

Mara looked almost afraid, though it was doubtful she could feel fear. Intrigue showed more than anything else in her expression. Caleb almost feared he’d said too much, but the scientist in her won out as he breathed a sigh of relief.

“I will look forward to learning what he has to teach.” She gave him a small nod, shaking Caleb’s hand in the human gesture she’d apparently learned from watching the people she studied in her city. It was a sign of respect that wasn’t lost on him and he returned the gesture with genuine warmth.

“You are a credit to your race, Mara. I thank you for trusting us with your son. He will know only love and happiness here with us, and will grow to be a strong man who will make you proud.”

“Thank you for sharing your vision of the future with me. I will hold it as a hope in my heart.” Mara touched her brow in a sign of respect he’d seen in his visions of the aliens and he followed suit, surprising her, he could tell.

The silver craft took off as soon as they’d boarded and the O’Hara family converged on the kitchen for a celebration. Harry was welcomed with kisses and hugs, the baby smiling happily to be back among his true family. He reached out with his chubby hands for his half-sister and Jane settled the babies next to each other so they could touch and coo, reestablishing their bond.

Caleb looked on, proud of the family they’d formed from the wreckage of their world. They were happy and healthy and God willing, they’d have a good future together. Jane came and cuddled under his shoulder as he watched his brothers play with the children.

“This is a happy day for the O’Hara clan, Caleb.”

He hugged her close. “A happy day for humanity, my love.”

She pulled back to look up at him. “Then all that saving the human race stuff is really going to happen?”

Caleb nodded as the brothers looked up, having heard her question.

“Let’s just say, with the events of today, it’s much more likely than not that our Harry will play a very important role in the continuing safety of our family, and humanity as a whole.”

Justin picked up his sleepy son, worry in his eyes. “That’s an awful tall order for such a little guy, Caleb.”

  The eldest O’Hara nodded solemnly.

“He’s already done more than any child his age should be able to, Justin. Give our boy a little credit. He’s up to the challenge. He’ll make us all proud.”

Fulfilling her mother’s dying wish, Allie climbs a wooded hill just before midnight on Samhain—All Hallow’s Eve. At the top, she finds an overgrown, magical stone circle, and her destiny. Waiting for her there are twin alpha werewolves who will be her sworn protectors, her mentors…and the loves of her life. If she lives long enough.

Overprotective is just one word to describe Rafe and Tim. Sexy is most definitely another. But their newfound love and all their skills—both mundane and magical—will be tested by an ancient evil. A hostile human mage and a misguided vampire hunt them, servants to secret plans of the ancient Venifucus, a society dedicated to destroying women like Allie.

They will earn unlikely allies, including a half-fey knight imprisoned Underhill for centuries. But will it be enough to battle the evil that stalks them? Will Allie’s men be strong enough to let her aid them in her own defense? Only together can were, fey and vampire defeat this latest threat and learn that love does truly conquer all.

“Let’s sit here in the garden for a moment before we go in. I have a few things you should know before we join the others.” Betina led Allie to a small bench hidden among a row of hedges bordering one side of the yard. A bird bath reflected the full moon in front of the bench. A small rose garden off to the side, showed its autumn thorns in the bright light of the October moon. Allie sat, trying to get her mind off the disturbing man but Betina’s next words brought her thoughts back around to him and his equally disturbing brother.

“Twins are not common among the were. Twin alphas are even rarer. Rare and magical. Wolf, bear, cougar, jaguar, eagle, hawk, condor, and more all have their twin pairs, but the Lady decides which of the weretribes will receive the next alpha twin pair each generation. While those twins are in their prime, they rule over all the weretribes in this part of the world, no matter what their form. Often they take mates from among their own tribe, but every once in a while, the pair will mate with a single priestess. Timothy and his brother Rafael are the current prime alpha pair and they are wolves.”

“Excuse me?” Was she implying that the people were animals and vice versa?

“The animals you sensed around the circle tonight were were. As are Tim and Rafe. The weretribes take many forms and almost all serve the Lady. As do we. Long ago, an alliance was formed and the weretribes help protect Her servants. Namely us.”

“You mean the animals turn into people?”

“More like the people turn into animals.”

For the second time that night a deep, masculine voice out of the darkness had Allie turning in surprise. This time it was the other twin brother interrupting their conversation, though he’d taken time to dress fu
lly, tucking his shirt in and buttoning his jeans.

“Tim, go back to the party. You’ve interrupted us enough for one night.” Betina waved her hand at the handsome man and Allie was surprised Betina couldn’t tell this man was clearly not the same one they’d spoken with just a few minutes before.

He winked at her and shook his head. “I’m Rafe, m’lady.”

Again Betina was embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Rafael. I’ve done it again.”

“No harm done. But your little protégé here seems to need some convincing about the were. I’d be happy to help.” His roguish grin brought an answering smile to Allie’s face before she even realized it. Where his brother annoyed and embarrassed her, this twin appealed to her mischievous side.

“Some would say you’ve done quite enough for one evening, my friend, but perhaps you’re right. Would it tax you to show her the change? She needs to see it, I think.”

Rafe grinned sexily and began to unbutton his shirt. “Not at all. I’d be happy to oblige.”

When he shucked his jeans, he had a raging hard-on that he seemed not in the least inclined to hide. Instead, he moved toward Allie and winked again, his dick bobbing outrageously before he fell to the ground.

At first Allie was alarmed, but became completely astounded and nearly overwhelmed as she watched the man morph into a huge wolf. The same wolf that had licked her nipple earlier that evening, if she were any judge.

“Were,” she whispered, understanding beginning to dawn. “You mean he’s a werewolf!” Her voice rose as did her shock. The huge wolf padded up to her and laid his head in her lap, sniffing at the fold of her thighs as if he could smell her previous arousal and was enjoying it. Hell, she realized, he probably was. The pervert.

“Yes, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. Werewolves, werecats, werebears and more inhabit this forest. They own the land bordering the national park and Rafe here is one of the current prime alpha twin pair. Be flattered he allowed you to witness his change. It’s not something they share outside their families very often.” Betina reached over to scratch behind Rafe’s ear and smiled at him. “Thank you, Rafael. I think that’s convinced her.”

Rafael moved his head out of her lap and rose to place both front paws on the stone bench, one on either side of Allie’s seated body. He swiped his wet tongue over her cheeks as she reached up reflexively and tangled her fingers in his pelt, trying to push him away, laughing at his antics. He was like a huge puppy, buoyant and full of life.

Rafe jumped down a moment later and changed back into a man as she watched, licking her lips with appreciation as his naked form took shape before her.

“So, what do you think?” he asked, bending for his jeans as he began dressing.

“It’s hard to believe.” Allie’s voice was tempered with awe. “If I hadn’t seen you just change before my eyes…”

Rafe chuckled. “Wait’ll you see Rocky.”

“Rocky? What’s he a wereraccoon?” Allie’s sense of the ridiculous got the better of her as the sarcasm slipped out, but Rafe laughed outright for a good long time. She counted herself lucky he hadn’t taken offense at her unguarded words.

“Oh, man! He’s going to howl when we tell him that one.” Rafe wiped his face and offered her a hand. She took it and stood from the bench, Betina watching them carefully. “Rocky’s a werebear. A grizzly. On second thought, maybe we shouldn’t tell him you thought he was a raccoon. Might be safer.”

How would you feel if you found out life, as you know it, is all a lie?

  New Beginnings: Carpe Diem

  © 2006 Tilly Greene

After the third world war, Earth is drastically damaged. By the 23rd century generations have passed, the facts twisted, history revised so it is unrecognizable and below ground a utopian society is established. Or is it?

Major Cooper Sayer, an imposing intelligent member of the special security forces, and Maris Gower, a peaceful soul who works in the New American Central Library, are an officially partnered couple. Life is comfortable, full of love for each other, and yet it took them less than fifteen minutes to decide on making a risky change.

With the dangers of residing below ground growing daily and the low life expectancy rate continually dropping, chances of a long and happy life together are becoming remote. The complete trust Maris has in Cooper is never questioned, even when he tells her they are going above for a chance at a longer life. A place that she has always believed meant instant death.

  The adventure starts now.

Enjoy the following excerpt for New Beginnings: Carpe Diem:

Sacrilege. Mari was sure she was committing some crime somewhere, but there was no hope for it. The man before her inspired wicked thoughts. This was no pretty-boy Paris. No, this was a warrior in the truest sense of the word. And yet, at the same time, he was everything beautiful, strong and true, and perfect for her.

Six foot four inches of pure male excellence stood with his back to her, so Mari felt free to peruse the sight at her leisure and with pleasure. Both his arms were thrust up high on the doorjamb. He appeared to be enjoying whatever breeze came through the opened doorway, while he took in the view of the sea beyond. His head was thrown back, showing how his ruffled, chestnut brown hair hung down slightly longer than she knew he usually wore it, curling lightly around a crown of golden laurel leaves.

A slight sheen clung to his well-defined back and clearly showed he felt the heat of the day, despite its zenith having passed some time ago. His position, with more weight on one foot, shifted his bottom into a delicious pose and encouraged her lustful thoughts to bloom.

This was all wonderful, but the sight that had her holding her breath was found lower down. Lower, where the skirt defied gravity by barely hanging onto the top of his perfectly taut cheeks. She saw the start of his crease and a sexy little freckle slightly to the side. There was a waistband made from a stiffer fabric, with a carmine and gold meander pattern, before a more fluid fabric fell to mid-thigh with each side well slit. She guessed the openings were for ease of movement but personally felt it was more for a man’s convenience.

The skirt’s white silken fabric was soft and flowing, the edges fluttered in the breeze, but it still clung lovingly to his perfectly rounded, muscular ass. Her fingers itched to cup the firm cheeks gently before slowly moving around his waist to lay against his stomach. Or maybe she would use the vents to move her hands down between his legs to stroke his prime piece of personal steel, feel the hitch in his breath and know the exact moment she had his full attention.

Mari moved her gaze from the backside of the universe slowly down the lightly haired, heavily muscled legs to the brass guards covering his calves. But it was the heavy boots which caused her to frown. It brought to mind that, yes, Cooper was godlike in beauty and possessed many wonderful qualities and had cast a spell on her senses, but in his heart, he was all-warrior, the ultimate warrior.

Since Cooper had come into her life, she had enjoyed their time together, both in and out of bed, and now understood she had gone so far as to fall in love with him. At no time had she felt there could be a future for them beyond what they currently had, although she had definitely dreamed of them being a family, as husband and wife with kids, everything.

But happily ever after did not come her way.

Cooper had to tell her. He didn’t think he’d been beating around the bush about how serious his feelings for her were, but then again, he hadn’t come right out and said the words either. If he didn’t tell Mari straight out that he loved her, he might lose her, and that was unacceptable.

How had his life reached this point? He was always in control, be it personally or professionally. Lives depended on it. Although, at this moment in time, he didn’t feel like he had full command of his life. He’d felt the wall she had put up from the start but thought he had reassured her, overcome any of her misconceptions and worries about tying herself to a man such as him. But lately he started to doubt she understood
she was his.

  Forever his.

He had done everything he could think of to show her how much she meant to him. Lately he’d been left with the impression she was waiting, for what he didn’t know, but he would find out tonight and no later. He was not a patient man.

In fact, right now he was a hot man! Standing in the doorway with the sea before him, he hoped for any and all breezes available to come to him. Cooper wondered when his little sexy bit of everything would make an appearance, for he had some serious plans for her tonight. And it was not going to be the party she thought they were attending.

With a deep, gut level sigh, Cooper opened his eyes and looked out at the beach in front of him, thinking back to the moment he first saw his Mari.

It was minutes from sunset. He was naked and starting his dash down the sand to dive headfirst into the surf to cool off, both from the oppressive heat and the ineptness he’d seen over the past few days. Tonight his attendance was required at a dinner party. After that he would move on to enjoy an annual, bacchanal event with friends. If truth be told, he was not looking forward to either event.

A sharp noise to his right had him reaching for his weapon, only it wasn’t there. He pulled to an abrupt stop. He could see her fairly well for being about twelve feet away, but had the impression she wasn’t able to see him as clearly with the sun at his back.

Her long hair, hanging past her waist, was free and slightly mishandled by the wind. Her face was oval, with almond-shaped eyes and lips, slightly opened in a shocked “O” shape.

The details were foggy in this lighting and distance, but he easily discerned she was a tiny bit of something wonderful and most likely wouldn’t reach his shoulders. Her beach attire, a length of fabric, wrapped around what appeared to be much more than a handful up top and curvy hips.
